Revolving Lights

Dorothy M. Richardson

Description

Revolving Lights is the seventh “chapter volume” of Dorothy M. Richardson’s pioneering semi-autobiographical series, Pilgrimage.

Series protagonist Miriam Henderson puts an end to her relationship with co-lodger Michael Shatov, a young Russian intellectual. She spends two weeks visiting the mansion of author Hypo Wilson and his wife Alma, Miriam’s old schoolmate. While there she meets author Miss Prout, another friend of Hypo’s.

The Wilsons are generally understood to be proxies for H. G. Wells and Amy Catherine Robbins Wells. Miss Prout is thought to be based on Violet Hunt.
